The Argument for a One-Piece Bathing Suit

As summer inches closer my fashion tastes have taken a turn towards the tropical. I love the summer and the myriad of style and clothing options it presents. However, along with shorts and sandals comes another element of summer dressing, that for many is much more precarious, the bathing suit.

A great bathing suit can make you feel and look amazing, while a terrible bathing suit can ruin vacations, lives and of course an outfit. Over the years I’ve experimented with different styles, but I always come back to the same look. For me, there’s nothing better than a classic one-piece bathing suit for any trip to the beach, pool or other water-based activity.

I realize that I may be in the minority in this opinion and do understand that two-piece bathing suits can offer unprecedented customization, something a one-piece simply can’t compete with, but if you can find one that fits you well, a one-piece bathing suit can be life changing.

First of all a one-piece bathing suit is one of the most comfortable things you can wear. It offers an extensive range of movement, and you won’t have to worry about anything coming untied or accidentally flashing anyone. And when you sit down, there’s never any need for awkward repositioning. Basically it makes any trip to the beach, and possibly even your life, better.

On top of the practicality of a one-piece, there are also aesthetic benefits. There’s no denying the classically chic appeal of a basic one-piece and with the recent reemergence of the one-piece bathing suit as a fashion statement there are a range of stylish options available, from halter tops to cut-outs. Plus you can wear it like a bodysuit under jeans or shorts or pretty much anything else.

I will admit that there is one downside to the one-piece bathing suit. Going to the bathroom is going to be annoying, but in all honesty that’s a small price to pay for all the other wonderful benefits the suit provides.

At the end of the day your bathing suit choice, much like any other style decision, comes down to your own personal comfort and fashion sense. For me, just the thought of wearing a bikini stresses me out, so a one-piece will always be my pick.
